Both Intel and AMD have usually run quality marketing events for their channel partners in the past.
I usually attend these events to see how they are implementing partner programmes offered to system integrators and partners.
But just recently I received an e-mail from Intel promoting its upcoming road show. To my surprise, Intel is charging its resellers and partners to attend this event. It would be understandable if it was a hands-on training event. However, this bi-annual channel conference boils down to a marketing event purely for the demonstration of Intel's latest wares. And Microsoft's of course.
Below are the prices Wintel hase proposed. The agenda for the event can be found here.
Mainstage Pass Only (8 AM to 5:45 PM)
$19.95 (in advance)
$29.95 (at the door)
Mainstage plus Backstage Hands-On Labs Pass (7 PM to 10 PM)
$49.95 (in advance)
$59.95 (at the door, if space available – limited to 200 first-come, first-served spots)
Intel claims that: "Due to space limitations, it is important that we receive solid attendee registrations. The value of attending this event, both tangible and educational, will exceed the price of admission. In addition, you can benefit from these incentives (complete details at the event."
And "Associate level members of the Intel Channel Partner Program who attend will receive 10 Intel Flex points per attendee (maximum of 20 total Intel Flex points per company)."
Further, : "Premier level members of the Intel Channel Partner Program who attend will receive 20 Intel Flex points per attendee to offset the cost (up to 40 Intel Flex points per company)."
But Microsoft Partner programme members "are eligible to receive a $25 discount at the Microsoft OEM Sales Center by successfully completing a post-show quiz. Details provided at the show."
I have already talked to my local system builders and so far none of them find the information valuable enough to spend $20 per person for this event. Personally, I am not going to attend if such a policy stays in place. The last AMD Tech Tour event provided system builders and partners with valuable up to date information for nothing from both AMD and Microsoft.
If you want more information how to get a $20 T-Shirt, the Intel website can be found here.
